when you picked a fallen eyelash from my cheek
and blew it off to the wind as I made a wish
Hold still - you whispered,
as the ground shook underneath my feet
while your lips hovered, moving closer to mine
Hold still - you implored,
when I tried to take a step back
your arms trapping me within your embrace
Hold still - you pleaded,
when you bent down on your knee
your hands grasping mine tightly
Hold still - I begged,
as I pulled you up to your feet
with the words I can't springing out of my lips
Hold still - you said again
as you understood the regret showing in my eyes
your gaze lingering on my face one last time
Hold still - was what I did
when you turned around, your feet taking turns
with me counting the steps that took you away ~ away from me
Hold still - was all I could do
with my own two feet rooted to the ground - unmoving
even as my heart screams out - please stay...
