Calamity

To feel that stubble on your jaw
with my freezing fingertips
as your warm breath upon my cheek
sends shivers down my spine
To feel the strength
of your arms surrounding me
was all I needed
to make me feel safe
as the storm rages on outside
And here I am with my ears
pressed to your chest
without a care in the world
counting the number of beats
your heart makes for me
as it lulls me to sleep
Lightning strikes
thunder grumbles
my moment of peace
was turned into shambles
I grabbed the sheets
preparing to run
Without a word
I felt your eyes open
even before you shifted our bodies
and saw the fear in my own
"Save me"
were the last words I muttered
as your lips closed in on mine
and the earth swallowed us whole
