wandering these streets
for quite sometime,
never fearing that
I might get lost,
for my feet
knew these streets,
with each of its
crack on the asphalt
and the street signs
on every corner.
Even with my eyes closed,
they knew how to take me home.
I never feared getting lost.
But when I looked
at the sky tonight
and saw that the rain clouds
hid the stars from my view,
my heart began to race
and fear rose to my throat;
for if I can't see the stars tonight,
how will I find my way to you?
Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes
Hold back the river, so I
Can stop for a minute and be by your side
Hold back the river, hold back
Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes
Hold back the river, so I
Can stop for a minute and see where you hide
Hold back the river, hold back
