Crayon Etching

Everything used to be
rainbows and rose-tinted lenses,
and sunshines and moonbeams;
before life happened to us.
Suddenly, splashes of colors
turned into murky shades of gray,
leaving nothing behind but
a canvas painted in black.
All was lost
until we let our hands learn
how to pick up a stick
and use it to scrape a path
through the wax;
to create a new picture
that will reveal
the colors hiding underneath.

"Let me show you my true colors,
it ain't no rainbow..."
