Thunder

Standing alone in the desert,
I could feel the static
crackling in the air;
sending goosebumps
right through across my skin,
as the sound of thunder
rattled from afar.
There's nothing to see
but miles and miles
of sand,
and the sudden flashes
of light through
the dark overcast sky.
Feet rooted deep into
the sand,
I watched as the lighting
moved closer and closer
to where I stood.
Courage or stupidity,
I don't know which was it
that caused me to stand my ground.
All I knew was
I wanted to be mesmerized.
So when lightining struck
the ground on my feet,
I got my wish.
As I saw the most magnificent thing
coming to life
right in front of me.

***It's kinda funny how one memory leads you to the next even if they're not really related to each other. Like how when I heard this song suddenly playing on the radio this morning on my way to work, then I thought of lighting and how I was once afraid of it, then I remembered the movie Sweet Home Alabama because of the fulgurite that I first heard of in the movie. ;)
