Hello and Goodbye

Sitting alone in this table for two
Foolishly wishing you'd want to share my view
From that moment you strode in I had my eyes on you
Up until when you took that seat across from me
With couple of tables and chairs in between
I shifted my eyes to this scrap of paper
Doodling little notes as my mind kept on wandering back to you
Time flew past as I sip on this cup
Before I felt these tiny prickles running through my skin
I took my time to gather a little courage to look up
But somehow I realized that it wasn't enough
To soften the blow of your riveting gaze
And that amused smile you had on your lips aimed straight at me
I tried to fight this little urge to look around
Just to make sure that all that good stuff was meant for me
"Take that leap of faith", I told myself
So I bravely met your gaze head on
and gave you a little smile of my own
But there goes that slim thread of fear wrapped around my heart
that pulled me back from the brink of happiness
And so I packed up my bag and let those gazes and smiles we shared
Bring our brief, yet memorable deal, into a close
